Manston 19 Mar

Hi all,
Went to Manston on Wednesday to witness a demonstration of new type of foam for crash rescue on aircraft. Really good (cold) day with the guys from BAA Gatwick and various other authorities. Managed to get a few shots of the 747 parked up awaiting the breaker to arrive. Nice little airport but there were a few jets that I really would have liked to get some photos of (MK DC8 / ex Aussie 707 and the Southern Winds 747) but was told to “£$%^ off by the nice friendly security guard….who promptly went back to reading his Daily Star.

Wow, those pictures are ‘hot’ (sorry, couldn’t resist!):D.

Was the OASiS 744 doing circuit training when you were there at all, would of been great to see it doing touch ‘n’ go’s along the runway!?

Thanks for sharing anyway.

Unfortunatley not, the only thing I saw flying were the Gazelle and a few local seagulls!!

Superb shooting matey! Sad to see that the 747 is still in such a sorry state down there though. 🙁

Some excellent shots in there, Si. Very nice indeed.

It’s such a shame to see that 747 in such a poor state though. 🙁

Nice shots Si like the fire ones and the 3rd 747 shot looks sad looking there .They have a lot of aircraft down there as you can see they have an F4 Phantom etc (Is it still RAF owned the fire training area? )

btw did you see a British Army Gazelle which visited on the 19 aswel as
G-JSAK R22
G-MKCA B747-200
N355GW C172
N5120 B430
OO-IDE C525
SU-GAS A300-600

James

James,
Yes the Phantom is there but is a sorry state and the actual fire training area is owned my the Ministry of Defence Fire Service. They still train RAF Firefighters there alongside there civilian counterparts. The Gazelle landed on the football field to drop off some Army brass for a visit.

Thanks for the positive feedback

Si
