Apparently EC-ITP operating for Manx 2 has crashed while attempting to land at Cork. Reports seem to be saying 8 dead and around 14 injured. Very sad news indeed. 🙁

The full accident report is available here and it certainly looks like a lot of mistakes were made.

Sad, it would appear that there was another victim of this crash. 🙁

so so sad !! we come to crossroads in life where we can go one way or the other and it pays not to dwell on the other possibilities
at the end of the day he was perfectly innocent and followed a new career route
in those situations you have to look at all options another realistic option would be he had the same accident with the same outcome
sometimes you can do everything right and still have an accident such is life
so sad he didn’t accept that , a terrible waste of a young life !!

Extremely sad as it sounds like he was a committed pilot

Sometimes committed people take the world on their shoulder’s while the majority of other’s couldn’t care a ‘yot’.
Very sad news. Condolences to those bereaved.

I suppose the main reason as to why it is being dropped is because the number of passengers that have chosen to travel on this particular route have not been sufficient after the tragic accident.
In reply, Manx2 said it had chartered the aircraft involved from a fully insured carrier – the Spanish-based firm, Flightline BCN
The online business is known as a virtual airline, with the company insists it operates as a booking office or ticket provider.
It sells seats on a plane, but the craft is owned and operated separately.
I think this is really bad…and shows a complete lack of respect towards those that lost their lives and were seriously injured.
Whilst they may well be a “virtual” airline/ticket provider, at the end of the day the flight was marketed as a “Manx2” flight, and therefore the responsibility of it should come down to them, and then it would be down to the Manx2 management to seek damages from Flightline BCN if it is found to be at fault in anyway.

It is reported that the airline will cease operating this route from Sunday.

From SkyNews:
It has emerged the 19-year-old Fairchild Metroliner aircraft had been put through a full maintenance check in Spain last week.

Aren’t we beginning to stray into speculation territory?:) We’ll all know more in due course…..

The aircraft was active early that day, it left Inverness around 0300, I wonder of the same aircrew were in command at the time of the accident? seems a long shift.

The main runway at Cork is to remain closed until 1600hrs today as a result of the crash, and whilst investigators continue to try and work out the cause of the incident.
Of course, there are some delays and cancellations to services, so people travelling to/from ORK are advised to contact their airline for further details.
Aer Lingus has cancelled flights to Heathrow, Amsterdam and Malaga. Passengers on other flights, including services to Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow, must make their own way to Shannon Airport.
Ryanair passengers due to fly to Stansted, Dublin, Liverpool and Gatwick should check in at Cork Airport from where they will be transferred by bus to Shannon.
Seems mighty strange that Aer Lingus is telling its passengers to get to Shannon Airport by themselves (and presumably at their own cost!), and yet Ryanair are offering transport, would have thought it would have been the other way round?
(Perhaps they [Ryanair] could charge any Aer Lingus pax for a ticket on the bus!:diablo:)

I think it’s fair to say these poor people had a far less comfortable flight than you, Interflug. 😡

I once flew on one of these things some years ago when it was chartered by Air Exel operating a STN-MST sector. It was one of the most claustrophobic and noisy aircraft I had ever flown on. The inflight ‘breakfast’ was on trays placed on small bean bags that we had to put on our laps. I would not ever consider the thought of another flight on one. A b***y awful aircraft.
Condolences to all involved and their families.

I’m actually quite shocked at just how much of the aircraft has been destroyed. It’s pretty clear some poor souls simply didn’t stand a chance. 🙁
