Manx Spacecraft!

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere else to put it!

I saw an article about a Russian/US company operating on the Isle of Man, and they have moved some older Russian spacecraft there with the plan to provide commercial services – not there I must add!

The company is called ‘Excaliber Almaz’, and technical developments are planned. Perhaps there will be job opportunities for younger forumites?

I would love to see the hardware myself, but can’t get to the IOM. Has anybody else been there to see the spacecraft?

Yes, rockets do make a noise! The public viewing areas for space shuttle takeoffs is, I believe, about 5 miles away yet still shattering.

Years ago, a US navy instructor told me he was present at the launch of one of the first Harpoon ship to ship missiles.

At the designated time, he waited on the ship’s deck with his own expensive camera to his eye and, when the launch took place, he was so shocked he dropped the camera on deck and broke it!

probably…. I grew up in a village north of Carlisle and could feel the ground rumble and used to hearb them and watch the smoke rise over the fells some 30 miles away as they tested the engines at Spadeadam………. A memory I have never forgotton

Thanks Tony. Are we the only two people on this forum who are interested in real spaceflight? 😀

I did ask Key some time ago if a spaceflight section could be added, but they declined.

If you get a chance and are in the area visit the National Space Centre in Leicester, they have, or had, a Soyuz capsule hanging in the roof in the entrance hall, and it was one stage up from a steam engines boiler (with windows in it) in size and construction….. also have a blue steel rocket with the cafe under the nozzles, fascinating place with an Imax cinema show included, nice day out for kids as lot of interactive displays to try.
