I have a rule: If your portrait is plastered all over the nation you
ruled over, in every possible public place, chances are that you were
a corrupt, meglomanical dictator that ruled by fear, and caused lots
of bad to happen.

If your picture is plastered all over your nation, an dyou’re STILL
RULING it, you’re even more evil and corrupt. (bonus points if
your picture is on the money!!!)

If it is a crime to NOT have your picture plastered all over every
home and building…you’re even worse – you’re Kim Jong Il.

Take a ride all over Washington D.C.. You don’t see half as many
statues and portraits of the presidents as you do of Mao, Kim Jong
Il or Saddam as you did in their countries.

You couldn’t have put it better!

Almost as bad as “prolly” from “probably”, and the Chinese aren’t even involved in that one. 😀

Hey…. this is post number 4000! Well I never…… 🙂

It’s the Chinese system of “westernising” spelling and pronunciation of Chinese words and names – called pinyin which is, itself, based on an older German system.

The alternative spellings that shih pluto77189 refers to reflect the “Wade-Giles” or “Wade” system that was in common use in the UK and USA before the adoption of pinyin.

Some Western scholars feel that the Wade-Giles system is the more elegant but the Chinese prefer pinyin and it’s their language so they should know. 😀

I know – I was revolted when I saw my old history texbook spell it
as “Mao Zedong”. I mean, I disike the guy, and everything he
accomplished, but to think modern American Students too stupid to
figure out Tse Tung sounds slightly different than Zeedong. That “T”
is crucial. I know people that pronounce General Tso’s Chicken as
“General Chow’s Chicken” because they simply don’t know. It starts
with simplification/stupidification of things like changing Tse Tung to
Zee dong…

Mao is tied for 1st place along with Fidel Castro for making left wing people look like idiots. Trying to make huge industrial/economic advances by use of clever technological shortcuts such as making steel foundrys in kitchen ovens. And then end up quietly begging the capitalist oppressors they publically rail against to give aid and invest in their pathetic horse driven economy.
