Marham 22/3/06

Marham 22/3/06

Took these today over at 39 Sqn.

Most of the guys are away in the great sandpit till the end of June with XH131 & 135.
So it just leaves XH134 available for any UK taskings.

Enjoy the photos.

Nice pix Dave, looks like you had a good day’s visit with the Canberra Assoc.

Regarding 39’s missions, I think 5 Sqn are taking over some of the tasks – if they can ever find a way to their Sentinal R1 Astor off the ground with a full crew and the huge amount of electronic kit it’s supposed to carry.

With the Jaguar going as well, how many types will the RAF now operate?

Tornado, Typhoon, Harrier, Hawk, Herc, VC10, Tristar, C17, Chinook, Sea King, Puma, Merlin, HS125, Tutor. Any more?

In my ‘yoof’ I had a poster from the Air Force recruiting dept, it was Aircraft of the Royal Air Force, and ran to about 28 types. Pembrokes, Shackletons, Argosies, Doves, Buccs, Phantoms, Victors etc etc. Still, there was a cold war on in those days.

So much for 39 Sqn ‘only having one operational aircraft left’. Now which magazine said that………. ๐Ÿ™‚

39 as a Sqn will stand-down on 29 July with a full parade and the Sqn standard will be laid-up at St Clement Danes in London on 30 July.

When the PR9 goes the current reece systems that it employโ€™s will be lost permanently to the RAF as there is no planned replacement.

As for the disposal of the three remaining aircraft, well, rumours are rife. Truth be told weโ€™ll have to wait and see. ๐Ÿ˜€

As for official displayโ€™s one aircraft will fly at Waddington as for anywhere else I donโ€™t know.

re

it would be totally against MOD thinking to retire such a reliable airframe and actually find a decent replacement. Same as I wonder if we will ever get any new tankers?

Davej

Very nice pics – when will the final PR9’s be retired? Are we still talking July this year?
Lets hope they can spare one to attend a few of the early airshow – Kemble perchance?

Finally… are the powers that be at Marham planning any official event to mark the passing of the Canberra?

Thanks
