TT, you aren’t quite correct. Marham’s Canberra isn’t actually on the gate as the Victor and Tornado are. She is hidden away inside the wire and not visible from outside the Station. She was also looking rather nice basking in the morning sunshine the other day! Got some pictures of her too which I’ll post here is nobody minds the thread creep!

She looks great, good job well done. Did you know that there is one part that is fitted in both the Halifax and Victor. One small bungee cord is exactly the same in both types.

Seems to be a alot conjecture here. Does anyone know if the MoD actually wants rid? Looks in fine condition to me and is in a fitting resting place, just needs some willing stn personnel to come forward to look after it. Mind you, that is more difficult with Health and Safety these days:rolleyes:

Looks miles better than when I saw her at II(AC) Squadrons 95th Birthday bash last July. Another great looking aircraft that looked right

XH673 has recently recieved a well needed wash, the RAF hired cherry pickers to allow access to the parts you can’t normally reach! All of the greeen slime that had built up on her upper surfaces in recent times is gone!

The old girl looks great now, she even glistens in the suns rays! I hope she stays put for years to come!!

She was owned for a long time by a owner of a large cache of Saudi Lightnings. When he came into some ‘difficulties’ – I believe ownership was relinquished .

Pity, history repeats itself.

There are many Vulcans surviving but the poor old Victor which has been in service much longer fights for survival.:(

That is what I thought, no idea who the owner is though. I did think that her days were numbered when a shiny Tornado GR1 with a thick coat of paint and a blacked out canopy appeared in our hangar at Marham a couple of years back, destined for only one place. But she has survived this far. The Fire section do give her an occasional wash, but only what can be reaches easily. I do still fear her days must be numbered though, such a shame with so few examples left of a type that was still in service less than 15 years ago!

If anyone has any photos of her being installed infront of SHQ, I’d love to see them! Must have been a logistical nightmare!

It would be a shame to see 673 go. I left just before they moved her. I heard that only one tree was cut down to get her there. It is indeed gutted, it was one of a batch of five (should have been six) that were recovered for spares when 57 Sqn stood down. I’ve still got a couple of gauges from the cockpit at home. They were junked when she was stripped so I helped myself as it were.

Don’t write her off yet!

Until the jcb rolls in there is still hope!
