I was very lucky this morning to witness a very special event, when Maurice Hammond’s P-51D ‘Marinell’ flew into Fowlmere.
This aircraft was lost (with her pilot Lt Myer Winkleman of the 339th FG) on a mission from Fowlmere on August 13th 1944, and today, 70 years on, the rebuilt aircraft was flown by Rob Davies back to her wartime base.

Superb photos, David, thank you for sharing them from this occasion. As I recall, she was also flown into Fowlmere on the 65th anniversary (+2 days), in 2009.

Very moving occasion. Good work chaps – reminds us of the human stories behind the hardware.
