Clarification

Mark 12 mentioned the page count and projected cover prices. Just to clarify, we are looking at around £27.50 (b&w) or £55 (colour) for Volume I (Marks I – XII, 572 pages.)

Vol II will be published next year and the costs will be comparable.

How many copies are you printing
Bruce

‘Print on demand’ alows as many copies as needed to be printed at very short notice – although it costs more per unit to print.

I understand that entirely – and you arent alone – but would the likes of Air Britain not be a good outlet?

How many copies are you printing?

I’m happy to leave it for now!

One thing – isnt selling it only through the website somewhat self defeating? Whilst I can see that you might not want to give the Amazon type quantity discounts, it would make sense to get it a bit further ‘out there’ than one website?

Bruce

Hi Bruce – we are looking at various options but the biggest stumbling block is the margin required by commercial outlets. We are constrained by the production costs which determine the cover price and initially we will only be offering it via the website. Time will tell.

BTW – website glitch is now fixed.

Thanks Mark12 – that was useful and interesting information that I am sure will be of interest to the many members who await it’s arrival eagerly. I hope the mods see it that way too 🙂

No mention of a price/prices – can you give us a clue??

Roger Smith.

Getting dangerously close to a commercial here Roger.

Mods delete as appropriate. 🙂

When I joined this project a year ago it was to be approx 600 pages and in black and white.

It is currently 1100 pages and will have well in excess of 1600 images of 276 Spitfires, Seafires, Projects, Substantial Wreckage and Memorials (with hardware). It is in colour, where available throughout, with a ‘then and now’ format. It is a hardback with DJ and on the best 130 gsm silk matt paper available. It will be published in two Volumes, Mks I – XII and Mks XIV – 24 plus Seafires, plus appendices. Vol. II is on track and scheduled for mid next year.

It will not be a cheap book at £55 but for those who just want the full definitive histories of these aircraft there will be a b/w edition with laminateded cover on the same paper at half that price.

It is being produced using the very latest Print-on-Demand technology and I am personally delighted with the quality of the proofs.
