R. J. M.

Bingo. 🙂

R J Mitchell’s briefcase being held by my all time hero – Jeffrey Quill.

The Spitfire Society function to present their metal replica of prototype K5054 to the world. The RAF Museum, Hendon – 24 April 1993.

With Jeffrey Quill and Alex Henshaw in the photo, I’d second dhfan’s guess at RJ Mitchell’s briefcase

Date I cheated. Google.

Obviously an extremely elderly briefcase. RJ Mitchell’s?

Date and location correct.

Sure there is a replica or something in the background but what of the first image posting?

..and a little more.

I seem to recall the replica also being at Hendon then, so I’ll say that, too.

Tangmere has a Spitfire prototype replica so I’ll guess there but I’ve no idea of the occasion.

OK, I was at Hendon around this time doing some research on early canopies, and photographed the Mk1 to give us some clues to build BM597’s external screen. So it must have been March 1996, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the first flight.

Bruce

Nah! Way off.

Concentrate on the first image.

There is another clue in this shot

Spitfire K5054 replica at Hendon. Jeffrey Quill seated.

Any points??

Bruce

All correct – but only one point for location.

…remember “What specifically”?
