Importance of the Ejection seats can hardly be ignored, something which is not discussed very often here.It has emerged that Martin Baker and IAF will conduct a study in Ejection seats development. It makes perfect sense that IAF has been chosen for the task 😀 , here is an article from an indian newspaper.
New Delhi, June 9: Legendary pilots ejection seat company, Martin-Baker, has initiated contacts with the Indian Airforce–one of the largest in the world–for possible cooperation in a massive ejection seat research project. Martin Bakers’ CEO, Mr. Ulta Latko stated, “we’ve selected the Indian Airforce because of their profile”. “We were looking for an airforce with such a record–luckily we didn’t have to look far” Latko said.
Company spokesperson Array Girgaya said that the IAF pilots would be in the “placebo group”. Girgaya explained that this group would be installed in the venerable MiG-21 aircraft and the pilots ability to eject with dummy ejection seats would be tabulated. “We feel that our Indian friends will find it no trouble being that many of their colleagues have been exposed to such situations”, Girgaya said.
Previous Indian research at government-run DRDO went array during the 90’s as the company mistakenly identified both test groups as ‘placebo’. DRDO Design Chief, Phir Murray, said that his company’s research is not of no value. “The press, particularly foreign press, has made us look like fools”. “The actual facts are that DRDO was able to collect 50% of the expected data even from such tests and, thus, we feel that it was not a complete disaster”, Murray said.
