I kind of have a sneaking suspicion that this has appeared here before, but cannot find it.
If so, no doubt somebody will point it out.

“Flown” again today as I passed.
By: adrian_gray - 10th June 2021 at 22:13
As far as I could tell (there’s only so much attention I can safely pay passing on the A34!), there was a replica being “flown” from a crane today.

This is the pic I’ve seen on Facebook. Credit to Andrea Sacha de Boer. Looks a fairly decent replica.

Photos on Facebook of a fairly complete B17 replica.

Thanks for the pics Adrian. There are some more on Instagram, one showing a 2D B17F.

Not much about the actual aerial sequences. And no rumours of any actual B17’s involved. Though pictures of a number of ‘Messerschmitts’ at Bentwaters have gone around online. Though they are painted in desert schemes, so maybe for an unrelated production.

Best I could manage over a double fence! I note that the hut appears to be a replica Nissen rather than a Quonsett…

As long as they film towards the (new for the film) control tower they’ll be fine as it’s right up against the boundary with Dry Sandford Pit nature reserve. I’ll post a piccie a bit later if I remember.

Knowing Abingdon well I do hope they get the Army to move all their lorries from in front of the hangars, weed 08/26 and hide all the bunds/X-country tracks the Army have built alongside the peri- track, otherwise they will stand out like the crop tram lines did in the Memphis Belle.

They say Taxying only and no flying there but maybe somewhere else
“For example, the application states that the production wants to ‘recreate the airbase on the airfield’.
It goes on: “There will be no flying, although the runway will be used to film aircraft landing and there will also be aerial photography over the runway of planes taxiing.”

I believe it’s to be shot largely at Abingdon.

No details of the aerial sequences, however John Orloff (screenwriter) has said they will use as many real aircraft as feasibly possible.
