Maurice Bayliss Spitfire Tr.9 MJ627 (G-BMSB) For Sale.

I learned at the Waddington Airshow that Maurice Bayliss sadly passed away some six weeks ago. I was informed that his
Spitfire Tr.9 MJ627 (G-BMSB) owned and operated by Maurice & Peter Bayliss from RAF Waddington is up for sale, preferably to a family run concern.
The aircraft is housed in a lovely purpose built hangar on Bravo Dispersal and is maintained by skilled former BBMF personnel.

Anyone wanna buy a kidney?

I have heard of a nice man in Nigeria who could broker it for you. Please send name, address, and bank account details and he will sort out the necessary.

I’m going to miss the old girl, every (or most) Saturdays she used to come roaring over my house before heading low level up the beach…. (Skeggy area)

Ditto………passing overhead Spilsby, E. Lincs……..

Rumour has it that the IXT will soon be based at Goodwood, for the provision of perfectly legit, transparent, public warbird experience flights. The CAA are proving most co-operative.

The aeroplane is now registered to RV Aviation Ltd, owned by Richard Verrall, one of the current pilots of the Boultbee Flight Academy, who of course operate their own two-seat Spitfire G-ILDA

How do you get to build a private hangar on an RAF base then?

You arrive well connected, and offer to share 50% of everything with the local flying club.

Actually, the shiny new NH-90s and A109s (and simulator etc) are in shiny new buildings at Ohakea, and Brendon’s hangar is new (and recently extended). The Hercs and Orions (you know, for long range maritime patrol in a SAR area that goes from the ice to the equator, and halfway to Chile, I think we are helping to keep RAF MPA crews up to speed) are still in the wartime hangars at Whenuapai. 😉

Hey, did someone say Spitfire Tr.9? (This is based at Ardmore, Auckland) – you can tell it’s Down Under!

Not like the RNZAF has much else to fill its hangars with these days. 😀

Brendan Deere has a private hangar on RNZAF Ohakea, with his Spitfire, Avenger, and Harvard. The Spit is generally flown by a RNZAF officer.

Sad to hear Maurice is no longer with us. Hope ‘627 finds a good home.

Wonder if VWC would be interested, it’s a 441sqn combat vet is it? Mind you, they already have a Mk IX….

A great shame that Maurice has passed away. I hope MJ627 manages to find a new home soon enough.
