I’m touching up some full-sized aircraft parts, and using Humbrol Enamel. Got the two shades absolutely perfect by mixing and guesswork, quite chuffed.
Some of the parts need a matt finish. I have heard that I can use gloss and then steam it. I could buy matt, but there’s little chance that I’d be lucky enough to get the colour right for a third time. What would the experts do?
Thanks.

I knew that this would be a good place to ask!
I haven’t painted the relevant bits yet, so I’ll pick up some of the magical Humbrol jelly tomorrow. Many thanks.

Add matting agent to the gloss mix. Humbrol used to sell it and I think it came in a tube as a colourless jelly like substance. It worked. It will be too late if you have already painted the parts. You need to flat the gloss. Try gently rubbing on a little moistened Eucryl Tooth Powder from one of the big chemist chains. It used to be called Smoker’s Tooth Powder which tells you what it was intended for.
