After the Tsunami 2004, Qatar ordered 4 (2+2) Boeing’s C-17 for military, cargo and especially for humanitarian and peacekeeping missions in muslim countries.
The second C-17 will be delivered in Qatar Airways colours. 😀

Hi,
I am from the thread revival police, could you not revive old posts in the future? Would be much appreciated. Otherwise our Police Chief, Bruce Willis would get angry.

Dear god looks horrible in the Qatar Colors!
Taken from Skyliner world!
Agreed! Colours would look much nicer on an IL76;)

The difference is that IL-76s, An-124s, An-22s, An-12, the An-225 etc all possess a valid civilian type certificate for the civilian version of those aircraft.
One recognized in the west? Really? They can carry pasengers for hire?
I’ve always thought the Soviet cargo planes were more or less on a “restricted” certificate in the West.
What kind of certificate of airworthiness is the civil aviation authority of Qatar going to issue to this aircraft ? “Experimental” or “Restricted” is what it should have.
Remember it’s going to be used for governmental…as apposed to commercial…work, so it doesn’t really matter. It’s just painted like a commercial AC, as a part of the government VIP fleet.

I agree, and just like the Iraqi Air Force/Iraqi Airways Il-76s that used to come into LHR in threes back in the mid 80s

I do agree though that often, stock military aircraft just had their registration changed and designated as “civil”. There are many “civil” IL-76s flying around with the tail gunner turret still installed and just painted over, like these:

Bringing European luxury and sports cars, big screen TVs, liquor and cigarettes to members of the royal family, military and political leaders and their friends? :diablo:
Surely that’s post Tsunami aid isn’t it? It didn’t say anywhere that it had to be for the victims of the Tsunami – just post Tsunami.
LOL

I am confused…what exactly is the purpose of this C17?
Bringing European luxury and sports cars, big screen TVs, liquor and cigarettes to members of the royal family, military and political leaders and their friends? :diablo:

It can’t be a ‘civil’ C-17 as they have not been certified. It’s just a fancy paint job.
Certianly looks like a civil registration on the side to me 🙂
