Here’s a slideshow of the first few photos that I’ve processed from Thursday’s visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/shuttleworthpix/sets/72157632032207401/show/

The photos are stored in this album http://www.flickr.com/photos/shuttleworthpix/sets/72157632032207401/ where they’re available at a resolution of 2000 pixels.

went today, most impressed with what I saw, I must admit I didnt take any piccys in the restoration centre, allways wary when sign says “personal use only” (Tank museum used to say that, but didnt see any signs there last month!)

Added bonus today was 3 Jags and a GR3 lined up for press day for next years airshow. They also towed a T4 out and parked her away from the rest.

I took a long lunch and paid a visit on Tuesday as I only work one junction and ten minutes away on the Motorway. The numbers of visitors that were there on a grey Tuesday lunchtime in November was really impressive – at least two coach loads of school kids plus lots of anoraks. I guess it’s not normally that busy and that most (like me) were there specifically for the MBCC open week but impressive all the same.

I would love to see the Hampden completed at some point but progress always seems very slow to the untrained eye. Maybe this is deceptive because it’s all dismantled and one day they’ll suddenly bolt a few big bits together and everybody will be amazed.

As I drove into the Museum at around 11.45 am, I noticed a large group of anoraks with cameras lined up at the side of the road just before the railway bridge. They were obviously waiting to take pictures of someone or something – anybody know what?

Won’t be able to make Saturday, so I look forward to the “personal use only” photos.

Just got back from a trip today. Didn’t take many photos in the Restoration Centre because of the amount of people. It was like sardines and you couldn’t get far enough back to fit anything in.

It might just also be worth pointing out that it is only open between tea break and lunch time (10:15 – 13:00).

Also lots of signs saying whilst photography is allowed it is for “personnel use only”. Whatever that is.

re;

I must say I was pretty impressed with the Cold War Hall. Although not to everyone’s taste it certainly does show some of the planes spectacularly aspected, especially the Lightning doing a vertical climb and the Sabre doing a barrel roll!

I was cynical when it was first announced, however as long as it keeps large exhibits under cover and is the only place to see all three v-bombers together (come to think of it, where else can you see a victor and Vulcan together?) it cant be a bad thing

There were two school parties there on Tuesday, but I think they skipped the restoration bit.

One lot (in the ‘Kevin and Perry’ age group by the look of them) did make up for it in the Cold War Hall – I think that place was designed to make shouting teenagers sound even louder…

Have just returned from a visit today. The restoration centre was busy as was the rest of the museum. Did not see any school party visit the restoration centre, think they missed out.

According to their website, it’s open until the 17th (Saturday):

http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/whats-going-on/events/conservation-centre-open-wee/

(strange web address at the end there…!)

We popped in yesterday on the way back up North from Ironbridge after seeing it on the local ITV news. I’d recommend getting there for the 10.15 opening, as it was a bit busy by 11.00…well worth a visit though.

I was there on monday too. Spoke to one of the staff. He mentioned that recovery is scheduled for spring next year. Funding was sorted he said. The lifting frame is ready as well. Very nice chap. Took many pics of the Hampden (obviously) and Wimpy. There are some underwater wrecks under scrutiny. They have a pilot’s seat from Canada.
Enjoyed myself immensely.

I went on Monday. Little evidence of progress on the Wellington, fin and rudder structure have been painted but the rest looks just as it did last year (this doesn’t say that work hasn’t been carried out, just that it wasn’t visible) The RAF launch also looks just the same. Ki100 that was in bits in the workshop last year is now back in one piece in the main museum with its place being taken by the fuselage of a P1127 Kestrel.
I didn’t take many photos (I’ll post some later if they don’t get gazummped first) as I didn’t feel that I’d get any shots I already had.
Don’t mention the Dornier – they didn’t.
