As for their name, I think I prefer the McFlurry story.

I still believe thats where they got their name from, a band like them are more likeley to have got it whilst queuing for their meal than a movie.

I mean if a rockband stood up at a battle of the bands and played Teen Spirit they would be booed off the stage at the VERY best, its the musical equivalent of taking a dump on an altar. Or at least they would about my way.

Didn’t Bobby Darin or someone recently do a swing version of Teen spirit?

They all should be lined up and shot due to the ABYSMAL covering of a Freddie Mercury iconic track. No-one else can ever touch it, except maybe for Brian May or Phill Collins, and it should be one of those songs that is seriously frowned upon to copy.

It’s the same as trying to cover Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, and i’d LOVE to see the reception anyone would get if they did that…

errr actually barn owl…iv’e got an oldschool dance track from around 95 in the loft that samples ‘teen spirit’ and its bloody awesome…i remember jeremy heally playing it once at ‘bowlers’ and the place erupted!!….and thats a bloody big place!!!!

I agree with you there, Neal. You should see the variety in my collection – Mendelssohn – Motorhead?!

I have a varied music taste, everything from Elgar to Katie Melua to Stiff Little Fingers to Kirsty McColl to name some. Someone mentioned earlier about us all having embarrasing albums. I don’t have one, I like all of the albums I have. Ilike them coz I like them not coz its cool and trendy to like them. Some people have the same views as me but their music taste is completely different and thats fine.
I don’t like McFly so I don’t listen to them if I can help it. My comment was a sarcastic one that another manufactured band are at No.1 with a cover version, not that No.1’s are that important these days.

As for their name, I think I prefer the McFlurry story. 😀

It amazes me that in all the replies made by people who believe their words to be the unequivocal truth, no single person in this thread has yet realised is that all everyone is doing is simply stating an opinion. I work in the music industry, and have done professionally for the last nine years. I’ve mixed more styles of music than most people are aware even exist, from death metal to trad jazz, reggae to Hindu qawwali bands and solo singer/guitarists to 60 piece orchestras. I’ve worked in venues ranging from pubs to arenas and major festivals and literally everything in between. I’ve also played bass for bands in situations ranging again from pubs playing to 10 people, outdoor festivals to 10,000 people and live national TV shows to audiences of 3 million+.

One of the main things that vast experience has taught me is that music is an incredibly subjective thing. It’s beautifully subjective. No-one has to justify their taste in music, whatever it may be. If Heslop01 likes McFly, so be it. He shouldn’t have to explain his reasons for liking them to anyone, nor should anyone else feel the need to make a sad attempt at putting him down because of it. That simply isn’t what music is about. It’s a personal thing. Something that connects with you as a unique and individual Human being in a variety of different ways, and as people are different, so are their musical preferences.

So if you don’t like McFly, don’t listen to them. It really is that simple!

McFly are a bunch of talentless idiots. And I agree with this:

NEVER EVER COVER A QUEEN SONG AS IT WILL BE CRAP!!!!!!

Their name was inspired by a McDonald’s product drop the urr from McFlurry and u get McFly…..says it all really. Bring on real music, not manufactured pop for people easily pleased and aimed at people between 7 and 13 years old!

Saw a bit of TOTP tonight and saw McFly are at No1.

Nice to see they’ve used their spare time constructively to write their own song again.

if the single is ‘don’t stop me now’ then they should be shot without a last wish, only mr. mercury can do justice to this song (and perhaps the red arrows, lol!!)
