McGuire AFB and 9/11

One of the issues raised about 9/11 is why was no fighter aircraft scrambled from McGuire AFB which was only a short flying time away. However my understanding is that Mcguire AFB was a base for transport aircraft (C-141s). Does anyone know any different? I have no axe to grind either way on this, I just wanted to get to the bottom of it.
