Its just plane daft when a plane does a wheelie on the runway.
When weight suddenly shifted in the hold of the cargo jet’s nose shot upwards leaving seven stranded at 40ft in the air.
They where trapped for more than one hour before fire fighters used a ladder to rescue them.
Los Angeles International Airport officials said “the Boeing MD-11 suddenly became unbalanced and fell on its rear wheels during unloading”.
An incorrectly – placed jack under the rear of the plane was the cause of thursdays mishap.
Fire department spokesman Bob Collis said “as soon as they took whatever it was out of the back of the plane the weight shiffted and the plane just went back on its tail.

It’s also happened at LAX several times before, also with FedEx.

This sort of thing happens quite often, it happened in Sydney not long back with a korean MD11F, and i remember seeing a FEDEX MD11F sitting on it’s rear end somewhere on Airliners.net

MD-11 Combi’s have the main deck cargo door in the back. Perhaps this was a converted combi?

I never knew boeing made the MD-11
They ‘officially’ did when they acquired McDonnell Douglass in 1998.

what a lot of BS…
Its just plane daft when a plane does a wheelie on the runway
Yes, I always find that the runway is the best place to unload an aircraft
Fire department spokesman Bob Collis said “as soon as they took whatever it was out of the back of the plane the weight shiffted and the plane just went back on its tail.
The MD-11 can defy the laws of Physics, then? surely if they took something out of the back of it, the CoG would have shifted forward…

I’m assuming there was a picture with this story? How do we know it wasn’t ‘created’ in some army barracks up north with the sole reason of giving them a story to write about? 😉
