The Jetphoto’s link provides much more info on the incident than I’ve seen elsewhere.
Nice job by the pilot.

Yes, G-ATBG and G-ETME, although the markings aren’t all that similar….

I was at Headcorn on Saturday and there was a Me 108 in nearly exact markings obviously it wasnt the one that crashed, was there a pair of them then?

What a skilled forced landing, especially if the pilot landed the aircraft under the powerlines in the background.

Could you e-mail me?

I’m really cross.
Wanted to add in the day that we escorted an escapee Me 108 from France – but searched in vain.
Would that have been 11 September 1943, Tim?
It ended up at Ford airfield. I have all the details if you are interested.

The picture you reference Ollie, looks just like the Bf/Me 109 diorama in the Battle of Britain exhibition at Duxford. I fear, judging by the bent prop, that he will have to have the engine shock-load tested and that won’t be quick or cheap.

I just hope that they remove her from the field before the souvenir hunters/vandals/eBayists start to strip her.
You mean some RAF types from the nearby station cut the fabric off the rudder for the mess wall! 😀
Seriously though, glad the pilot is OK. Looks like he did a very good job to put her down as he did.

She’ll hopefully be up and about again soon!
If I remember rightly, the ‘108/”Pingouin” has a slightly thicker-gauge alloy on the undersides to protect the belly tank, so hopefully that will have absorbed some of the impact.

Yes, but it’s nothing like as pretty as the Nord Noralpha
Them’s fighting words!!
By: avion ancien - 16th August 2008 at 21:28
………….and here’s some idea of what an Me.208 would have looked like if there had been a different outcome 63 years ago – although this one is actually a Noralpha of the Escadrille de Souvenir!

Now is a Nord 1002 Pingouin a french built verison of an me108 ?
James
Yes, but it’s nothing like as pretty as the Nord Noralpha – which is the SNCAN post war production of the Me. 208. But as the only two Me. 208s produced before the end of the war were built and flown in France, I don’t think that it would be fair to say that the Noralpha is “a French built version of an Me. 208” – because there weren’t any versions built in Germany!

Without being flippant about what could have been an unpleasant incident, the sight of a Luftwaffe marked “Messerschmitt” bellied into a Kentish field during high summer, guarded by a local Policeman and peered at by curious locals, has a certain resonance about it.
My son who is with the local Fire & Rescue service in Headcorn attended and couldn’t believe his eyes when he arrived as he had been at home, on call, watching the DVD of “Battle of Britain” he had borrowed from me when he was called to the incident.
