Bf 109E-4/B, Werk nr 3726, Feldwebel Erhardt Pankratz (wounded, PoW), 6./LG 2, damaged by fighter attack crashed at 1130 hrs 5 October 1940, Lower Gate Farm, Sussex (Les Messerschmitt dans la Bataille d’Angleterre) or Pelsham Farm, Peasmarsh (BoB Then and Now).

Thanks for that. 🙂
Regards Phil.

[QUOTE=adrian_gray]Given the number of items such as cockpit perspex missing, and the hole through the middle of the swastika, one wonders how much is battle damage and how much is post-crash “souveniring”.

I thought that myself, just thought that a well placed cannon shell in the tail
before it went on show would add to the scene.

Without the books in front of me, I can’t say for certain, but I don’t recall any MkIbs being declared fit for operations at the time that ‘109 was downed.

That said, there were a few instances where MkIbs scored kills – the late George Unwin, for example, flew a Ib with some success in 19 Squadron during the Battle of Britain.

Looks like cannon shell damage. Were there any Spits using cannon then as I thought they had instalation dramas at that point and had pulled them off ops to be rectified.BTW awsome pic..Thanks for sharing.
