ME 109 at Biggin Hill?

Today I recieved the flyer for Biggin Hill airshow and inside it it gives you an idea of whats going to fly and an additional list titled ‘Plus’ with planes such as Sally B. But in the list it has ME109. Can anyone confirm this as it isnt listed as flying on their website. Or could it be a buchon, failing that, is it just a mistake?

Breaks the heart that there’s an airworthy, genuine 109 sat dripping oil and gathering dust in the gloom at Hendon. 😡

Yes both are in the show plus JG891 and TD248. The Buchon and Hurricane should be back from La Ferte late afternon if the weather is still ok. Both are due to night stop at Southend on the Sunday. See the thread for “Hurricane BD707 back at Rochford”. The original BD707 served there in 1941 with 402 Sqn RCAF so it’s quite fitting really.

Going back to the original question, turns out that it is the Buchon that will be displaying at Biggin Hill from Spitfire Ltd at Duxford.

Cheers, Richard. I had a feeling it wasn’t “Red 7”, but wasn’t entirely sure since I knew there was a static ‘109 doing the rounds, too, and thought maybe that was it before restoration.

And now that I think of it, there were pics of the silver-painted ‘109G’ at La Ferte Alais(?) a year or two ago, too.

warhawk69, DazDaMan

The Messerschmitt 109 that was at fairford in 2003 has the following history:
(info received from David, who runs the site Falcon’s Messerschmitt Bf 109 Hangar)

The static EADS “Bf 109 G-2” was build in 1948 as Hispano Aviacion H.A. 1109 K-1-L
with the WNr. 54.
There are no informations about the military spanish history.

In march 1968 was the plane repaired for static and becomes the markings
of a Bf 109 E with a “red 5” for the film “The Battle of Britain”.

Mr. Willy Messerschmitt was buying the plane after the film and it was
modified in the cowling section to look more like a german 109. See the
black/white photos on my website. It was used as gate guard at the
Messerschmitt headquarters in Augsburg.

In 1994 the plane goes to the EADS and was rebuild as Bf 109 G-2,
finished in 1995 without camoflage. This painting from your photos get
the plane in 1997.

In 2004 the plane becomes a complete silver painting, because the old
painting was very bad and the surface under the color was damaged.

Photos of it at Fairford are here:

Messerschmitt Bf109G-2 #01
Messerschmitt Bf109G-2 #02

Hope this helps.

Richard

Not aware of it being our Buchon at present, but we are always up for an invitation to attend……:) We have a nice 249 Sqn tropical filter MkVc Spitfire to compliment it as well……..and of course there’s the Hurricane in its new colour scheme!

Looks good, glad they are on the way to getting this one up again 🙂

Well, it flew for a bit, before succumbing to the ‘109’s unfortunate trait of difficult ground-handling (if I remember rightly).

Currently well on its way to flying again, however.

It might well be possible that it will come over. Been looking at the website, and the are in the final stages of the repairs. The wings are already on, the engine was not damaged during the” not so succesfull” landing.

As I’ve already stated further up the thread – D-FEHD (the ex-Dittes aircraft) was operated in the UK for a short time. 😉

Would be great to see it in the UK. Don’t think the other 2 will come to the UK.

Its not the same machine, rote 7 is privatly owned, while the former Hans Dites one is now owned by the messerschmitt trust.

I agree it was definatly freighted in and not flown. I have done some digging and its BF109G-2 (converted from a Bouchon) D-FWME.
Anybody know if this is the one they keep as static or will it be returned to flying?

I guess it will be the Buchon from Duxford, but it would be a bit of a coup to get one of the EADS examples.

Not one of those that flies, that’s for sure. Statically restored Buchon/109G, but no idea about the identity.

One appeared at the Royal International Air Tattoo in 2003 in the static display. Not sure which one it was though.

Have either of the two EADS ‘Bf109s’ made an appearance in the UK in recent years?

(Before anyone answers, yes I know D-FEHD was operated by the OFMC for a while.)
