Red 7 & Duxford
When I was in Germany, I asked one of the team if RED 7 would appear at Duxford, I was told that the team had approached Duxford in the past and was only offered the same amount of money to appear as a UK based aircraft. Consequently as we all know, she never came to the UK.

RED 7
I had the pleasure of spending a few days at RED 7’s home base in October/November, she looks absolutely fantastic in the flesh. The team have worked miracles with the restoration, they did engine runs on 31st October, unfortunately I missed them due to being in Austria buying the damaged engine cowlings from Red 7.
The team made me very welcome, they are a nice bunch.

And, as I have probably pointed out umpteen times in this forum, the G-10 is registered D-FDME, it was D-FEHD until it was converted to full G-10 status with a DB engine….
Sorry, Kenneth, old habits die hard.

EADS is the parent company/owners of the Messerschmitt Foundation
No, they’re not, they are two separate entities.
Unless I’m wrong, EADS has something to do with the Messerschmitt Foundation – D-FMBB and D-FEHD both bear the EADS logo beneath their cockpits.
The G-6, G-10, Bf 108 and the Me 262 and M17 replicas are owned by the Messerschmitt Foundation, but are operated by EADS. The three former aircraft used two be owned by DASA as they were then, but as the company was going through some rough times in the mid-nineties, they were acquired by the Messerschmitt-Foundation.
Whoever owns Rote 7 is however not quite clear at the moment.

Thanks! (My German is a bit rusty I’m afraid.)
So that makes four airworthy Bf 109s in the near future:
D-FMBB, ‘Bf 109G-6’ based on a Buchon airframe.
D-FDME (ex D-FEHD), ‘Bf 109G-10’ based on Buchon + G-10 components
D-FWME, ‘Bf 109G-4’ based on a Buchon airframe (Red 7)
CF-EML, Bf 109E-4
It would be great to see two or three together, and with the move of Red 7 this should become a possibility I guess.
Edited to correct registration.

The statement basically says that:
“The Me109 Red 7 is ready to go again, and will return to its ‘birthplace’, to the present day EADS at Manching. MAC will not be able, for various operational, insurance related and other reasons, to continue to operate the aircraft by itself. EADS have come forward, as a helping hand so to speak, to take this responsibility. Thereby assuring that Red 7 will always have a safe home in Germany. EADS have also committed to display the aircraft in the future, both static and flying. A big thank you to all the friends, sponsors and fans without whom this whole project would not have been possible.” (my translation)
I may have made some mistakes here and there but I think most of it will be correct.
No, that’s pretty much it.
Great news for Red7:D

The rumors were right with Manching, but not with the new owner … The statement on the MAC-Homepage mentions EADS, instead of the “Messerschmitt-Stiftung”.

Couldn’t be in better hands, in my opinion. What a stable that would be – 3xBf109G, Bf108, Me262…. π
Imagine the fly-by they could do… then you would really see a thing or two you haven’t seen before.. π
By: DazDaMan - 10th November 2007 at 11:35
Rumors are, Red 7 has been sold to the “Messerschmitt Stiftung” (who also own Black 2 and FM+BB).
One of the owners decided to leave the project and the remaining people did not have the money to pay him off and finish the restoration. After completion, the plane is said to be transferred to the Manching.
