I recall seeing an interesting video of a captured Me 410 doing an engine run. IIRC it was at RAF St Athan in the 1970’s. Is that right and does anyone have a link to said vid? I’ve searched here to no avail.
Thanks Don

They won’t be running the LH one any time soon, as its been seized for many years. :mad
What happened to that engine? Run without oil, overheated??
Realy wonderfull to see such engines running!
Regards,
Mathieu.

Hi TonyA
Wow!! Thanks so much for posting that video! It’s a bit like the buses, wait 20 odd years and then 2 pop up together!
Very much appreciated, you and Ian have made my year 🙂
Wonder if there are any more St Athan delights out there 😎
Cheers

Here’s a video I recorded of the Focke-Wulf. Probably in 1987??

Not too sure if this is true as I was told this by one of the curator’s at Cosford, but during one of the engine runs the brakes were dabbed a little too hard causing the a/c to lurch forward and taking off at least 2″ off the props?
I was fortunate to take a few photos with and without the cowling panels off and in a few frames the props do indeed look a little stunted?
Here’s the link

The year i passed my test i drove to St Athan and thought i was going to end of the world!!! Any way this must have been towards the end of 1986 and they ran up the FW190. Any one got any video?

Lovely video, love the sound of those superchargers!
Personally I don’t like gags round oleos, it’s not that hard to inflate them/keep them inflated and if the seals are shot then new ones can easily be made.
Going round a museum and seeing lots of red gags just seems another block in imagining them actually ever working, but that’s just me. I guess with some bits the fun police have got involved, “oh but what if they explode” and other rubbish!

Great video of an extremely rare plane. If only it were a flyer….. sigh. Although I am not sure if I would want it flown regularly, given its rarity. But a video of even one flight would be… marvellous.

Awesome post – sends shivers down me seeing those priceless aircraft run up with those dreadful RAF fire extinguishers as the only safety device – Such a shame all museum aircraft rant kept in this state- a quick google gives a good history of the ME 410 amazing in 1946 they decided it should be preserved but didn’t think a Halifax – Stirling or Whitley worthy …..
