ME-410 Engine Run St Athan's 1988

Hi everyone just watched a video of the ME-410 engine run, what other aircraft ran in 1988 with the 410 and could it happen again?

CD,

The story goes that one or more of the blades were damaged and cut, the other blades were then cut to balance them out for engine runs. Could be urban myth, I don’t know…

Hampden,

Was the V1 engine run at Lasham?

I’d like to see the FW190 go to Cosford and for both aircraft restored to running condition, they were properly inhibited after their last runs from what I was told (didn’t see any hardware stuff being used, just standard RAF nuts and bolts and ally ;)).

Perhaps they could be added to the apprentice training program (already very good) and eventually run at the airshow, get the kids interested in becoming part of a museum just as I was *** years ago 😉

I remember seeing both the 190 and the 410 as a kid, running on probably the same day as these pictures/video clips. An awesome sight and sound- however Heath Robinson any of the engineering may have been, at the last the guys bothered, and got a good result- highly unlikely to happen again in this day and age of course.

Wasn’t there a V1 run up occasionally somewhere? Now that I would like to see!

Hi Howard

😀

Not sure if this is the same year:

The Ki-100 also ran but this happened before I joined the museum. There was also a Gnome rotary engine on a stand which ran as well.

Cheers

Q1. We saw the Fw 190, Me 410 and Piston Provost from memory, not sure which year. The Ki 100 was also run at other times, I believe. There are copies of my pics on WIX. They all needed (as did the audience) to be very waterproof! Welsh weather.

Q2. No. Policy. It could change, I can’t ever see how though. (The props of the 410 were cropped, and hardware from the local hardware store used to get the engines running. Very not museum policy now, very much enthusiastic tech unit leader.)

Regards,
