Me109E rear view mirror help please

Hi
I thought I would post this Me109E rear view mirror that came with the aircraft history, the aircraft was from Feldsebel Koslowski crashed aircraft that was from 7/jg51 the Werk number being 6281 that had dived into a drainage ditch on Lidham Hill farm Gustling near Hastings.

It was purchased at the War and Peace show this year from 2 sellers that were present on this particular dig along with a consortium of southern based aviation archaeological groups during the months of Sept/October 1989.

The reason for this post is would anyone have any further information on the mirror itself along with any images diagrams etc, as there is little in regards to information on the Internet, the mirror itself is original bar the glass that has been added for display purposes only, it is in relic condition as can be seen in the photos, it also has the all important Fl part number of 24400, I know that the rear view mirror was rarely used due to vibration etc would anyone know any other reasons why?

Also any information regarding Wili Koslowski would be very much appreciated.

Brad.

Just looking back on your earlier reply in regards to having the actual screen with a mount do you know of its variant would it be (E) or the later armoured type?

Hi Rocketeer
Below are some images including Me109, Me110, and Dornier aircraft unfortunately there are no close ups but you can just make out the single stem bracket.

Interesting in regards to your mirror if you dont mind me asking did it come with any history? also would you mind putting on image on so i could compare, one other question does yours the same FL number?
cheers Brad.

Hi Duggy
This is what i had gathered also apparently the pilots never felt the mirrors were required as some mentioned once they saw a Spitfire on there tail it was possibly curtains anyway.

Your photo shows a three bracket fixing it to the canopy i also have this photo along with another that shows a one bracket fixing which i would say is the same as the one that i have, ill try and download it along with a couple of others, one of which is fitted to the side canopy of a Dornier.

The Luftwaffe did experiment with them, but from what I have read there was a problem with vibrations.
