Well, it’s Lufwaffe (Lufwaffe: expensive)

Brrr, amazing what you can do with such an amount (if not spent on this cockpit)

Cheers

I have been in contact with the seller, I even made an offer, he told be that ‘bidding’ so far stands at £27000!!!, he told me that a buy it now option of £40000!! will secure it!!
Below are the details he sent me:

Thanks for your interest. This 109F-4 cockpit section was found in
Russia in
the early 90s. The serial number is unknown to date, although it
certainly
is an Erla-built example probably from the 10000 Werknummern block.
The
project is about 95% complete.

Description:

The cockpit is dismantled and unrestored, it has been bolted together
for
the photos only. The only missing parts are the cockpit sidewall
reinforcements, the electrical panels, blind panel, cockpit floor cover
and
other minor parts. The original parts included are:

-Rudder bar, original and complete with brake pistons & pedals GC

-Throttle assembly: original with push rods and actuating levers. VGC

-Oxygen system: regulator, ****, manometers & tubing. No mount. VGC.

-U/c indicator & selector: both original and GC

-Trim & flap wheel assembly & indicator: Complete system GC.

-Original canopy & windscreen; no plexi. Windscreen and rear part in
GC,
folding part incomplete (hinge side missing)

-MG151 ancillaries and electrical parts including relay boxes etc. The
cannon itself is not included.

-Map case, Original VGC

-Armour : complete set, original VGC

-Antenna mast, original.

-Seat & harness: original. 1 latch missing.

-Complete control column & base, including aileron lever and rare KG12A
grip
(correct type for the F)

-complete -and original- main instrument panel with gunsight: this is
one of
only two known original 109F panels in the world. Complete with
instruments,
including the rare u/c indicator, tropical filter lever, original u/c
release grip, etc, all original. Including original Revi 12D gunsight
and
mount.

The project includes also most of the electrical & hydraulics on the
cockpit: cockpit lamps, regulator, breakers, dimmer, IFF BG25 box,
earphones
swich with cable & plug, etc.

Also included are many other parts, samples & hardware, like BfN
normalized
bolts & prisoner nuts, etc

After restoration this project would make one of the most accurate and
original 109F cockpits today, as even complete examples like the one in
South Africa or Canada do not have accurate interiors and none has an
original instrument panel, for example. The project would provide also
accurate information as to how the 109F cockpit is made -no 109F
drawings
survided- or would be a source for -nearly impossible to find- parts
for
any of the current 109F restorations.

that sounds ridiculous, though i have no idea about the pricing of ww2 cockpits, is it ridiculous?

About what I would expect in this case !

It all depends on the buyer if there is one and how badly he wants it. I think £2000 for a Halifax throttle Box was silly but others don’t.

On one hand I am sure a lot of money and time has gone into gathering all the bits.

On the other it seems a lot when you put it into perspective, against other projects for the same money, less than that could get you a substantial wreck from Russia.

Personally I think it is a lot for something that has been created from parts, I doubt very much it is an original cockpit section more an assembly of cast off skinnings, as Stuart rightly pointed out the lack of rivets points to this,

I think I would for that price at least want a complete canopy and a lot of rivets !

You gotta be quite impressed with that, if only for the fact that it appears to be held together, without the benefit of a single rivet or bolt…..

Open to offers ! find a telephone book for a numbers guide !

I have tried to deal with this gentleman on a couple of occasions over smaller items at aerojumbles and given up due to the “offers” approach, probably in some way due to my lack of patience, so don’t hold your breath.

It always makes me laugh when people want offers it means you have to sell it and buy it too, why dont they just put a price on even a high one then you have a starting point otherwise I just see it as a waste of time unless you offer something like £500 000.

Marco is quite well known in the German a/c and Me 109 world and he certainly did have items as described – so I doubt that 1 April has anything to do with it!
