MEA fleet evacuated.

Just seen on the news that MEA have gotten the heck out of dodge.

Using the longest taxiway at Beirut Int. they flew their stranded aircraft to Cyprus. It seems that’s where they’ll stay till the conflict is over.
One wonders what this will do to MEA. I understand they were not in the best of positions financially, but were keeping their heads above water.

No what i meant mate was that ive never heard of them.

Well here they are!

British Airways plans to introduce a new Russian regional route and increase the number of flights on its existing routes to the country, a company official said on Tuesday. Daniel Burkard, regional commercial manager for Eastern Europe, said BA franchisee British Mediterannean Airways British Mediterannean Airwayswould operate three flights a week from London to the Urals city of Yekaterinburg from May 10. The new route will push the number of British Airways’ flights to Russia to 50 each week and more are planned. “We are planning to increase the number of flights on the London-St Petersburg route from five to seven a week,” Burkard told reporters. “We are also planning to add one flight on the London-Moscow route during the summer period.” British Airways’ Moscow flights use the city’s Domodedovo Airport after the airline moved from Moscow’s outdated and uncomfortable main hub Sheremetyevo last year

Moderator Comment

I’d just like to remind you all that this is not an appropriate place to discuss the rights and wrongs of the current situation in the Middle East.

As others have pointed out there are already threads on ModMil and General Discussion dealing with the wider issues, so let’s confine ourselves in here to discussion of the impact of these events on the world of Commercial Aviation.

Why, what’s happening in Beirut?

All started when hesbolla (sp) kidnapped to israeli solders and killed 7. Isreal responded with air raids on the main airport knocking out the runways. and then its navy bombarded the oil tanks at the airport.

Nothing much now commercialy wise mate all the runways are out of action at the airport a few airbase’s have been attacked, all the ports are blocked off by the navy. Me thinks it will get worse before it gets better. Theres a discussion thread over in military aviation about it.

It is like a replica of the original time when MEA had to do similar and flee with their aircraft.

I think there was an Azerbaijan Airlines (?) a/c in some of the shots. Disturbing events though.

Yeah I saw a few aircraft when it was showing the bombings, did wonder what was doing to happen with them. Glad there out of there! Was there any other airlines there at the time?
