Without wishing to get any hopes up; it looks very much as though we have discovered a pair of Short Stirling Mid-upper turret ladders in our deep storage facility.
They have been cobbled together with lengths of angle iron to create a weird folding ladder arrangement. (‘Elf and Safety would just love this!)
The angle iron sections holding the two ladders together were wrapped either side of the ladder tubes with mild steel plates and bolted together without drilling the tubes.
Unfortunately, the lower example of the pair of ladders which make up this makeshift ladder is missing a section of the vertical tube between two of the rungs, which has been sawn out (for whatever reason.) The upper ladder appears complete; even down to the spigots which were used to fix the forward lower end of the ladder to the floor of the aircraft. Its hinges are intact and functional. Photo to follow when the two parts are separated.
