Some say Canada is the Land of the Lancaster… true as we do still have 8 of the worlds surviving lancs.. with a handful of those currently under restoration.
Lancaster KB839 is one of those airframes that is receiving a lot of attention and repair. Situated outside at the Greenwood air Museum Greenwood Nova Scotia. As reported last year, the decision was made by the Museum to remove the nose extension plug a remnant of her AR post war duty fit and convert her back into a bomber once again. Her bomb-aimers section was removed for restoration and a replica nose turret is being created from original drawings and specifications and will be installed when complete. Recently her bomb-aimers section complete in wartime camo paint was reinstalled on the lanc forever giving her a different look one she has not sported for many years. Long term goal is to replace the missing interior of the cockpit so if anyone has any parts that might help speed the process along or would like to donate to wards the Lancaster project please contact the Greenwood Air Museum at :

So Peter, do you think we will see one day a Canadian Lanc restored to a Canadian post war scheme & configuration?
Do not send that plug too far away 😀

It will be once KB882 moves indoors to Edmonton Alberta

Hope they manage to get it under cover at some point in the future. Seems a shame to do all this restoration work for the aircraft to be left outside.
Just out of interest, is this now the only Canadian Lanc on outdoor display?

The lengthened nose was a “ply put in at the joint of the bomb aimers and cockpit sections. The plug was removed and the bombaimers section restored before refitting. The unwanted postwar plug has done to a new owner

A guy on Antique Roadshow had a complete flying panel, maybe he could donate it and be remembered for this ?? Check out the Roadshow series. cya
Or you could buy the panel of the gentlemen in question and then donate it! I’m sure he either enjoys having the panel of if he had been on the roadshow it might suggest he appreciates it’s monetary value too.
🙂 It does make me smile how others idly suggest what others do with their property and money. If we had a penny for every Branson/Sally B comment!
Good luck to them with the restoration. I too think it was interesting in it’s long nose guise but it is there aircraft and they are the ones slogging away on it. A world war 2 example is admittedly more of a draw to visitors. I would imagine anyhow.

I know…restore it to WW2 conditions….
But still it had quite a nice modified long nose for so many years.
What happened to the original nose section? Cut the extension…or just do a new nose?
Anyone knows?????

Not until a building big enough to take her is built sadly. I do hope this Lanc gets indoors soon though.

Are there plans to move the Lanc under cover?

I bet they didn’t put the Bostik sealing in between the turret ring and the ring platform or did they?
If so I’ll eat my hat provided it is made of marzipan
