I saw an short piece in a thread discussing a swash plate array in a European fighter. It brought some interesting questions to light.
1. What are pros and benefits to having an electronically steered array?
2. What are the down sides?
3. And like wise what are the pros for a swash plate array?
4. what are the down sides?
Will attaching a mechanical swash plate negate the long term cost saving you will have be using electronic beam steering only?
You can see more angles, but I have read articles claiming that newer pure Aesa radomes with no mechanical parts never need to be opened for maintenance.
And finally how do you mitigate not being able to see past 90 degrees on a pure electronically steered array? do you install Tr modules in the leading edge of the wings? in the tail? discuss.
