Medal of Honor

Who else here is a fan of the long-running WW2 FPS games series?

I’ve got most of the ones that have so far been released (on PlayStation and XBox) – never bothered with the PC-based version! Would have to say my personal favourite is quite possibly the first one – OK, it might look very dated now following the development of the others, but it’s still cracking fun to play, and even better when it’s you versus your mates! 😀

Much, much prefer these than to the similar (though more realistic) Brothers in Arms or Call of Duty games!!

Hidden and Dangerous 2. One of the most realistic WWII shooters/strategy game I’ve ever played. It’s a bit dated now, but I think it’s far better than CoD or Medal of Honour.

I still play Battlefield 1942 a lot. OK, it’s very outdated, but the gameplay is fantastic and you have many multiplayer servers.

Another game that’s nice is the freeware Wolfenstein. Not the best, but it sure is fun to play:D

At the moment I want to try Red Orchestra, a game based totally on the russian front. I’ve heard many good stories of it and seen some movies and screenshots. It really looks great!!

Many games, and you can only play one at the time 😉

Personally i found them a bit short, the game play is fluid and fast, graphically its stunning the sound effects are excellent.I finished it in a few days ,but will replay it in a harder mode at a later date.

Oh right ok are they shorter then COD 2 Big Red One?

The harder levels are where COD really scores. I played through COD2 on Veteran and it was HARD. Almost perversely real in the sense that one or two good shots and you die.

On the plus side, in COD3 you can finally toss grenades back at people!

That’s true. I think the closest thing I’ve played to a full on WW1 battle was Hog’s of War on PS1 😀 😀 😀 LOL 😀

This is a good game…….Territory War http://www.nothingtoxic.com/media/1165300145/Territory_War

Fair point there about WW1 etc FPS games. Would be good to have some variety rather than the bog standard WW2 or “theoretical” style games.

Some FPS based around more conflicts would be nice like Korea Suez or even WW1.It always makes me think could i have done this actually at the time. And probably a big no would come to mind, its bad enough trying to think tactically under pressure in the games never mind doing it in real life.
Hats of to the chaps who did.

I love Medal of Honour. I have Medal of Honour-Frontline…….although it can get slightly boring with the Infinate Health and Infinate Ammo cheats on all the time 😀 😀 😀 Well, I die otherwise 😀 😀 😀

I have Brothers In Arms – Earned In Blood and that has to be my favourite next to Call of Duty 2 – Big Red One (which my PS2 conveniently dug into with the laser so now it won’t even load)……a tragic situation to find ones self in seeing as that has to be one of the best games to date.

You can still shoot them in the knackers, though – I seem to recall the original MoH would tell you where you managed to hit the enemy, including head-shots, torso, limbs, and groin! 😉

Yeah, just what was that last “mission” all about in Underground?? I could never do it, despite having laid waste to the Nazis with little more than a silenced pistol and a few petrol bombs (OK, and the odd machine-pistol!) throughout the rest of the game!

I did love the intensity of Frontline‘s opening mission – storming the beachhead. I really think that, after seeing Saving Private Ryan, the game’s designers thought that that was how a realistic FPS shooter should be!

Am currently finding the first North African mission (find and destory Tiger tank prototypes) in European Assault bloody hard going. You expend as much health/ammunition doing the secondary missions as you do the primary ones!!

M.o.H.

Who else here is a fan of the long-running WW2 FPS games series?

I’ve got most of the ones that have so far been released (on PlayStation and XBox)

DazDa – Have to agree with you, the first one was a trend setter & provided hours of good fun…… Loved sniping with the ‘Garand’ M.1.

First time my son & I played against each other (shooting & bazookering ‘seven bells’ out of each other) in ‘Tale of Two Cities’ we both fell off the bed clutching our ribs in extreme laughter (I ALWAYS chose Kurt, the leather-coated Nazi – Son mostly chose ‘G.I. Robbie’).

As he got older (& more smart-arsed) he regularly gained the edge over me 🙁 not good for ‘Competetive Dad’s ego:cool:

‘Underground’ got stupid/babyish at tail-end – ‘Panzerknacker’ & dancing-dogs

When Son gained an X-box (few years back) I bought him the M.o.H. where you storm the beach, plant charges on PzKpfw IV’s, & fight your way across Arnhem/Nimijen bridge…..fun, but harder going.

Now he’s 15 – Sis-in-Law bought him Brothers in Arms, which I played for the first time last week.
SOON GETS DULL, after repetetive outflanking manouvres, though again I found myself choosing the ‘Garand’, over the ‘Thompson’ or the captured M.P.40 (no M.P.43/Stg.44 available yet sadly, on the levels I played).

Got angry at the stupidity of the game, when on 1st attempt my squad took cover on the adverse-side of ‘Foucarville’ church – only to find that the mortar barrage was able to do what is ballistically impossible – i.e. fire over a 40 +odd ft high church roof, and then magically invert back on its own flightpath & kill the squad outright…… a reverse ‘J’ shaped trajectory (NOT).

Stupidity resolved, on second attempt – went aggressive & easily caned the mortar squads – moved on to Glider/poles/landing level……. but once again getting bored of the ‘Full Spectrum Warrior/Gulf War’ outflanking squad business.

Best/Favorite game on ALL consoles (for me) is still ‘Panzer-Front’.😎 😎 😎

Using Panthers, K.T.’s, Nashorns & Mk.IV-H’s against Churchills, Cromwells,
M.10’s, T.23/Shermans, T.34’s, Su-85’s & K.V.1’s…….

Gauging the ranges & firing till you acheive your objective, or get killed by a lurking Jagdtiger or IV.L/70 or Stug III, whatever.

Developed in conjunction with Bovington Museum/J.V.C. & ENTERBRAIN, Panzer-Front is definately the ‘one that got away’ or the unsung hero of the games-console world.:(

What a shame, as nowadays it’s the only time our Playstation gets an outing (apart from younger Daughter playing ‘Spyro the Dragon’).
