dark light

Medley Manor Farm, near Oxford, a little quiz.

I had an utterly unexpected brief visit here yesterday – arriving before the asparagus stall opened, I was spotted by the pickers and invited down to the farm to get a couple of bunches.

So… What on earth has that got to do with historic aviation?

Have a go, no Googling!

Well, as the creativity seems to have run out I reckon it’s time to put the bemused out of their misery.

Medley Manor farm was occupied in the late ninettenth and very early twentieth century by a man named Jason Saunders. His grandson, a young lad named Geoffrey deHavilland*, spent much time there and it was from his grandfather that he received £1000 pounds for him to set up a business making aeroplanes. The rest, as they say, is history.

Birthplace of Chairman Mao. Before the Glorious Revolution more and more Chinese land was being seized by evil Capitalist landlords – a process known colloquially as ‘Havee-Land’

Come the revolution this was reversed. This was known as the great de-havee-land.

Sounds as though your idea might have been a wonder, Mike.

I thought my initial, rather ‘wooden’ idea was a good ‘un but now I am floundering a bit.

Unless he dreamt of Manderly last night, Jeepman seems to have the right idea.

Anyone else?

…and somewhat annoyingly I cannot find my copy of the appropriate book to give chapter and verse should anyone get it!

I’m sure, though that you now appreciate why I was so pleased to get there.
