Melvyn Hiscock's Rearwin offered free to new owner (sort of ! )

About 15 years ago, this  forum followed closely the restoration and first flight of forum member Melvyn Hiscock and his  Rearwin Cloudster G-ELVE, and a very nice job he made of it too. Quite a few lucky forumites had a go in it.

After some years of successful flying, mechanical bills forced a sale. Melvyn died in 2021 after a long illness.

Unfortunately the aeroplane tripped up inverted at RAF Marham last summer, and has this week come on the market as a free airframe-  as long as you buy the Warner Scarab engine.

”This 145hp Warner Scarab 50A is fitted to an accident damaged 1939 Rearwin 8125 Cloudster serial number 803 registered G-EVLE. The aircraft overturned at very low engine power due to brake hydraulic lock. Some damage to one wooden prop tip (see pictures).

The engine serial number 1043EA has TT 1510 hours and had extensive overhaul work 24 hours prior at 1486 hours. Log books from 1953. Some spares and tooling included. Airframe ended up on its back and was recovered and dismantled in a sympathetic manner and placed in dry storage. Damage to fin and cockpit tubing, stb outer wing strut fitting deformed, fabric scuffed and needs replacing on wings.

The engine is for sale, the airframe is free with the engine, no splits or part sales.”

It would be great if this could be put back in the excellent condition which Melvyn originally worked so hard to achieve.

Glad it found a home.

I tried to get a friend, a well known antique aircraft restorer and pilot, interested, but he’s not a fan of Rearwins.

Also, the shipping would be a bit dear for what it is.

The CAA site ‘G-INFO’ shows several owners since Melvin Hiscock.  The latest notified change of ownership is dated January 2024 to a Richard Kilpatrick of Deal, so the answer would appear to be yes.
