Memorial to B-24 crew unveiled

Following on from the fascinating Meschersmitt in Bedfordshire Barn thread, I have found the news article below. The B-24 featured crashed in a farmers field after taking off from RAF Cheddington (sometimes called Long Marston too) in 1944.

The field in question was shown on the google map on the Barn thread, close to the west coast mainline, near Leighton Buzzard. The full story was recently published how the farmer, whose family still own land in the area, ‘discovered’ small items from the crash and managed to trace the crew.

The video on the news article shows surviving crew members at a memorial unveiling at nearby Ivinghoe a couple of weekends ago. I hope you find it interesting.

I to was at the unvailing of the memorial . Thanks to Chas Jellis the memorial has been made to the two crew members who lost there lives in the B24 crash. It was nice to meet Norman and Geroge, pilot and tail gunner.
The memorial is at Ford End Farm, Ivinghoe. There is another memorial at Cheddington Airfield just out side the gates which was unvailed in the 1980’s.

I was at Cheddington all weekend and the unveiling was well attended. You wouldnt think George was in his late 80s…
