I recently came in to possession of these two RR Merlin plates. My efforts to contact Rolls Royce Heritage Trust have so far been unsuccessful, so any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
The engine number is 82753 and the A number (which I presume is the A.M. contract) is 331869. DIS086? is faintly engraved on the rear of the plate.
The supercharger number is 728 MK61.
Am I correct in thinking that the Merlin 61 was exclusively fitted to Spitfires VIII’s and F.IX’s?
Are the plates likely to have come from the same engine or is it a coincidence that they came as a pair?
I know the chances of identifying the particular aircraft this engine was fitted are slim to nil but is there any way to narrow the search?
