Would be nice to see that ground running with a big, old Watts two-blader. I saw an ex-Merlin III Watts at the Shoreham jumble ten or so years back and wish, now, that I had bought it.

Anon.

It’s a II, 1937 I think.

Nice, quite rare, early Merly. Would be appropriate for one of those “baby” Spits that seem to be increasing in number.

Not looked at the blurb – is it a II, III, X?

I received a letter in the mail today from the de Havilland Moth club.
A member is warning others about being defrauded out of a rather large sum of money in regards to purchasing an engine.
(in this case a Le Rhone). The buyer, in good faith, sent a substantial deposit with the promise of balance after the engine had been inspected.
The engine never showed up. Long story short, this gentleman is out his deposit with no practical recourse.
Buyer beware!

Would be interesting to see what the forum thinks it’s worth as I suppose there are plenty of a Millionaires out there looking for an unusual Television stand that would pay a few quid for it.

I can’t easily read the data plate, but it appears to be a very early Mk II or III. Still an interesting project, if you wanted to get it running. A tad high in price, if the indicated price was accurate, but maybe it’s me who’s out of touch with the value. I think Vince O’Connor in Canada has a Mk III for sale at about one-third that price.

Ah, that engine – it was up here in Norfolk for a long time. I’ve seen it and it is very nice indeed, but I don’t think it is owned by Ralph. I forget the name he gave me at the time.

The engine is at RRHT 12 shop in Derby. I always understood it to belong to Ralph Hull. The best thing would be for anyone potentially interested to ask the seller to arrange a viewing.

That will be the same engine that was recently advertised in Florida… I think it’s also been advertised as being in Glasgow, Cambridge and London…. proceed with caution!

Number pulled from email exchange with seller. It is also quoted in other versions of this advert.

Best guess estimate of worth? Making an offer? Pulling numbers out of thin air?
