Merlin in-flight refueling

Why are RAF Merlin HC3 helo’s fitted with in-flight refueling probes, when there is no aircraft in UK military service which can refuel them?

Will the RAF A400M’s be fitted with hose and drouge systems, if so then could they refuel the Merlins?
