hi guys,
i saw this merlin XX in the solent sky museum, i was curious if anyone could identify what type of aircraft it came from?, the perspex ‘window’ (section of the canopy?) in the left hand side is from a stirling prehaps another piece that could be aquired by the stirling project?

Firstly, the exhaust manifold isn`t from that engine, it is from a Jumo 211, you maybe already knew that! If you have a photo of the other side, Hurricanes have a chain sprocket on the hand turning gear whereas Lancs have a tapered alloy extension casting. Looks like a Lanc bearer to me, but some Mosquitos had Merlin 21s that were converted XXs and these retained the original ID plate, and have a very similar bearer. All 3 types could be fitted with the Hydromatic prop shown in the pic.
Probably a Lancaster.

Thanks for that Sam,
We came across this a few weeks ago and have/are approaching Solent Sky with a view to borrowing it so that it can be accurately measured. The DV window will then give us the correct profile for the lower corner of the cockpit coupe and assist in the CAD drawings.
