Back in early December I made the trip out to see the “Museo del Aire” museum at Cuatros Vientos airfield on the outskirts of Madrid, here is an initial selection of photos from the day.
Given the popularity of the Battle Of Britain film on this forum, this first selection of photos shows a slight bias to the types involved in the film.

Casa 2111 E/F T.8 B97

Two shots of the collections Buchon C.4K-158

Dornier T24-3 HD.5-2

Hispano 1112K1L C.4J-10

Two shots of the museums pair of Casa built JU 52/3M

The sole surviving Heinkel HE111 E3

The former Hanover Street B25 J

Two shots of the superb Cierva C19

The star item of the collection must be this composite CR32 one of only two known survivors.

Nice shots! I didn’t realize they had a CR.32 in any fashion… that’s quite a spectacular piece. And I have to say, that Triplata (the Hispano-engined 109) is one of the sexiest versions of the 109 out there… yet it’s completely ignored in model form, what a pity!
Thanks for the photos-
Lynn
I forgot to say the same company also produces a resin conversion kit of the HA-1109 J1L.

Thanks 92 fis, a touch of Helicopter blindness crept in.
James, there are indeed two Rapides on display now, the other example was at one time registered in the UK as G-AERN.
FIO photos are here.

Great pics Mr Brown!
I see that they’ve opened another hangar since I was there and moved some of the aircraft from the Heinkel’s hangar around and out into the new one. Do they now have two Rapides I see? One, the Olley Air Services machine is a very historic machine being the example used to fly Franco to start the Spanish Civil War… It was gifted to the nasty little dictator by Olley…
does the orange autogyro have a fuselage from an avro 504?
The original design did, this is a non-flying replica (technically a Full Size Model) The Cierva C-30 that Gary’s photographed is a replica, built as a copy using a real Avro Rota loaned by the RAF Museum (who got a Spanish Bucker Jungmann in exchange – a real win-win-win) and flown for a brief period.
You’ve just reconfirmed that it’s a must visit place
Can’t agree more. A great museum, and opposite the FiO flying collection too.

Some great pics there, do you know the story of how they still have a He11 E3 was it left over from the civil war ? and if so how did it survive ?
curlyboy
Good question Curlyboy,
I will endeavour to find out more of its history but according to the Preserved Axis aircraft website the airframe arrived in Spain in 1938 as part of the condor Legion, how it came to survive I don’t know.

A few more from this often overlooked collection.
The DH 4 replica may seem familiar to many as it passed through Duxford some years ago.
J Boyle, do Autogyros count, as here is the recently airworthy C30 and a superbly restored Whirlwind.

Miles Hawk Major.

Dornier Wal replica.
Bristol Fighter replica.
DH 4 Replica.
Fleet 2 (Is this the sole example in Europe?)
C30 Autogyro.

Thanks Daz, Lynn.
There is a 1/72 scale resin/injection moulded kit of the Hispano 1112 K1L, manufactured by a German company called Classic Plane, they also do a Buchon in the same scale. The kit comes with decals fo the film “Stern Von Afika”. There is also a version with Spanish decals.
This is a link to their website.
