Lanc data plate

Willy

The Lanc Data plate reads as

B H C
V A C H 0052
D2973
ISSUE 9
31 – 5 – 45

V A C H stands for Vickers Armstrong Chester don’t know at the moment what B H C stands for, hope this helps

One thing, in my everlasting research of the c/n of every aircraft I ever photographed, would one of the lucky men allowed to examine 474 at close range provide the info.

Thks very much in advance

Very interesting- having looked at some pics of ‘474 in Africa back in her youth, you can see the wheels are the same type as they are now- something I’d not really twigged beforehand. Presumably then, this type of wheel was used as standard on some later Lancs from new, just like the larger area rudders that ‘474 also has.

When I was an apprentice at Dunlop in Coventry in the mid 60’s there was a massive aircraft tyre store at the west end of the site. I used to love wandering around it particularly when I found a tyre marked “Lancaster” – presumably this was support for the French Aeronavale?

No the wheels are original the part nos are the same for Lanc,Hastings and Shack. Tyres are ex Shack stock although Dunlop are going to produce some more for us. The U/C is late Lanc / Lincoln.
