Message from Graham Adlam regarding the Spit nose trim thread

Hello friends

Seems the thread was deletet.
Anyway Graham wants to post his point of view of the discussion:

It has come to my notice there are several slanderous posts on the WW2
aviation forum relating to my business http://www.spitfirespares.com. I would like
you to publish this email in its entirety on the website and remove any
slanderous emails.
A trim gauge nose up nose down was recently sold on eBay. I do not as a rule
sell parts on eBay but do so through my website. In purchasing parts for the
website I sometimes have to buy job lots that are not suitable for the
website or multiple items which are surplus. I supply these parts to a third
party who sells them on eBay. I do not supply descriptions for these parts
as I don’t know and or simply do not have time to do so. It seems that there
was a reproduction trim gauge included in the last box. I have contacted the
third party and request that they release the buyer from the sale if he
wishes to. This is a good will gesture as no claims were made as to the
parts listed and they were started at only £3.99. As these trim gauges cost
nearly £50 to have made its obvious it doesn’t make sense for me to sell
them on eBay at £3.99 with no reserve, anyone who is prepared to spend a
large sum on a part like this ought to be able to identify it., its very
clear from the picture this is not an original part, there was no intention
to deceive anyone and I find any suggestion on your forum to be offensive.
Anyone who has had dealings with spitfirespares knows that I am 100% fair
and honest with a full money back guarantee. The address of the third party
on eBay is a legimate address and business.Anyone who wishes to discuss this
matter further should contact me direct through my website and not make
misinformed slanderous statements on your forum. I have also posted comments
on the accusations of shrill bidding on my website.
In addition I find it interesting that many of the so called enthusiasts who
have left damaging comments about me DO NOT have contact information on the
forum???? They hide behind their member names and do not supply even an
email address. I have emailed as many of the people who have left posts as
possible. In this country the last time I checked you are innocent until
proved guilty and any other comments contrary to this are slander. I
consider this thread has done a great deal of damage to my Personal
reputation and that of my business and I will be seeking my lawyers advise
after the holidays. Further to this myself and my staff will be keeping a
close eye on the activities of people that have left comments but also trade
on eBay to see that they maintain the high standards that they preach.
I would like to thank all the loyal customers who have emailed me their
support over this matter.
I have posted a full explanation on my website http://www.spitfirespares.com

There are enough barrack room lawyers about on the internet that I hesitate to add my own, relatively limited legal opinion to it.

Suffice to say that the Webbie pulled that thread promptly to defend Key’s position as is required.

In the light of the sellers admitting ‘I have found that a member of staff did in fact use my personal eBay account to try and win this item as they also thought it was genuine without checking with me first‘ I would suggest that money spent consulting solicitors on the matter of ‘slander’ (sic) could possibly be better invested elsewhere. But that is the seller’s business, not mine.

As Webbie isn’t around at the moment I am taking it on my own responsibility to lock this thread. I trust all of you will bear with me on this until I can consult further.

Martin,

I think the issue of the gauge is only half the story, the other half is the use of eBay, and the bidding on an item where the bidder & vendor are the same person. This is known as ‘shill bidding’, and as featured on the Money Program recently on BBC2, it’s taken very seriously by eBay with immediate suspension.

As someone who also observed from a distance and didnt comment on the previous thread I agree with Kev35 and say the forum is indeed a source for a great deal of information.

Im certainly a lot more clued up on the in’s and out’s of Spitfire nose trim instruments.

On a seperate issue does anybody know where the Anson went that Mr Adlam had up for sale on ebay recently?

I didn’t read the contents of the now deleted thread, on the grounds that I have no interest in, or knowledge of, anything to do with the Spitfire nose trim whatever.

However, for the majority of us here, Key provide a wonderful free resource which the the majority of us make use of, and use that resource both wisely and well.

I would suggest that a read of clause 14 of the Code of Conduct will clarify the situation and any threats of legal action should be made privately instead of pasted all over this board.

I sincerely hope that whatever grievances are currently being aired in public can be sorted out amicably and in another more suitable arena while the forum returns to it’s usual fare of information sharing, a source of assistance and advice and a little good natured banter.

Regards,

Graham, if Ebay has suspended your account ,it is because a fellow ebay member has complained, and Ebay has upheld that complaint, not because Ebay PLC reads this or any other forum, and acts on rumours or gossip.

Merely as an observer and not a participant on the thread of which you speak
I’ll be interested to see what your Lawyer says and whether you wish to bring a private prosecution to seek an injunction and or damages…

Spitfirespares

Well the malicious comments on this forum have taken effect. The ebay account has been suspended with a loss of income for a company that runs on very tight margins, that means everyone who works there is out of a job. Luckily its not my only income and i will be seeing my lawyer on Monday with a copy of all the threads. Trust me anything that my lawyers consider libel will be pursued with vigor.

Graham Adlam

finally i am able to post. Why dont you read the message properly, Im not admitting anything of the sort and I am jusy about fed up to the back teeth with this. Why dont the majority of people leaving comments here have contact info??????. Please read the message properly and see the comments in the whats new section of my website www.spitfirespares.com. In answer to a previous question yes we are still trading although responces may be a little slow over the hollidays depending on the volume of messages. I have a post on the website about not receiving emails. My firewall can knock out emails from time to time but we will have a land line operating in the new year available in office hours.

So he freely admits to selling a gauge he made for £50 and then bidding on it falsely to ensure he at least gets that money back ? Is that correct/ethical…?

I dont get involved in the sometimes acrimonious “discussions” on this forum but would wish to state that in my dealings with Mr Adlam have been 100% fair and above board. All items I have purchased have been what they were stated to be and I paid what I considered to be a fair price. Any auction has its own problems and sometimes people get carried away. I would never purchase an item at auction without accepting that it might not live up to my expectations.

I started another thread at about the same time as Herbert, so in order not to complicate the matter further, I have moved my response to this thread, and deleted the other one.

The thread did contain some interesting posts along with the potentially libellous remarks referred to.

On that note, I made a statement that I considered that some of the descriptions posted on the above mentioned site to be innaccurate. On the grounds that this statement could be taken as my attempting to gain a commercial advantage over Mr Adlam, I withdraw this statement unreservedly.

In my personal dealings with Mr Adlam, as buyer and seller, I have had no problems, as is reflected in Ebay feedback.
