I received an email from a very excitable Mr R.weaver today. He has given me permission to pass on his message.
He has his visa for the U.S. and will be going over in the autumn to get his FAA PPL,NIGHT,IR,CPL,CFI,CFII and try for a work permit.
He is on the verge of completing his NPPL here in the U.K., so any moment now I should have some good news for you. Fingers crossed.
And just in case you were beginning to think that the dear chap had lost his sparkle, he tells me he is doing “dummy check rides and PFA’S ” at the moment. I’ve been having fun guessing what PFAs are and whether they are similar to PFLs. Anyone want to hazard a guess? I couldn’t print my guesses.

I think that most of his “flying exploits” were just ideas that he should have kept to himself. I don’t think anything major ever actually happened to him.
Mind you the idea about plying young Ladies with alcohol is still out for debate as to whether it is a bad thing or not. :diablo:
And maybe shininig a torch at a Police Helicopter at night was more fun for him than them.
And as for having the sun in his eyes whilst travelling East in the afternoon …

I hear a judge has suggested that young men should not be allowed to drive until they are 24 – shame they don’t suggest this in the aviation world.

There may be something with his eyesight that prevents him from getting a JAA CPL, but which is not restricting enough to prevent him getting an FAA CPL. Just guessing of course.

I’m afraid that that always baffled me too. He looked fine when I saw him, so I don’t know how bad his eyesight was or how stringent the medical for the CPL is or for the NPPL for that matter.
Maybe there is someone more knowledgeable than me here who can answer that – just maybe!!!
