Hi all,i am looking for any information on a messerschmitt bf 109 e-1 that made a forced landing at street end, lower hardres,nr canterbury, kent map reference R5601.The pilot was Fw Xavier Ray W Nr 4034.I live in the village and a friends mums sister managed to get a piece of the cockpit glass whilst having a look not long after it came down.I have done some research and it may of ended up in India and is now in the uk being restored by Guy Black.i need some help with the map reference as i have found a photo of a bf 109 that has crash landed and the country side in the back ground looks so familiar that it could be the one.

Yup Andy,
Bit of dart board pattern with pins in the map.
The original poster quoted R5601 which decodes to 50.60647603 N 1.00526708 E (in the Channel)
(g) report gives R5061 decodes to 51.14700761 N 0.94515466 E (Quarrington Wood – East of Ashford)
(k) report gives R5871 decodes to 51.23467494N 1.06381538 E (Fausett Hill/Red House Lane)
The (k) report is closest to Street End/Lower Hardres.
Attached is the (k) report from AIR 40/2401

Ross
There is a discrepancy between the A.I.2(g) report and the A.I.1(k) report you quote regarding map references.
The (g) report certainly quotes R.5061.

I would also love to see your Bf109 photo

This aircraft is currently under restoration to fly.
I do have the exact map reference of the crash site marked on my OS maps, but cannot access them at this precise moment.
Would be very interested in sight of the photograph you mention!

The map ref for Fw Ray’s aircraft from the A.I.l.(k) report is R.5871 not the R.5601 you have listed.

Can’t help with the map reference, but what are the fuselage markings on the Bf109 you have a photo of? For the record, Fw.Xavier Ray’s Bf109E-1 WNr.4034 was coded “Black 6+I”
Cheers
