Messerschmitt Bf 109 in Hucknall

Sorry cannot find a link to this photo.

If you go this site http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/

And select search images entering ‘NCCC002549’ will bring back a photo of a bf 109 in a council yard in Hucknall. Can anyone identify it?

There are two photographs of a 109 numbered 2 that I have found. The first is an E-4 W.Nr 2058, fuselage only, in a scrap yard. The 2 appears to be red with a white outline but the one in Hucknall looks black rather than red and the cross is much more distressed and the one in the scrap yard.

The second, another E-4 W.Nr 3410, was sent on an exhibition tour around the Midlands. However this is a white 2 although there seems to be a strong resemblance in the way the propeller blades have been bent.

Can anyone solve my riddle?

Cheers for the pointer Tangmere1940… out of interest, what source did you get your confirmation from and can you point me towards any additional images of this Bf109?

Thanks in advance 🙂

As you say, not Heinz Wolf’s machine. And we can rule out Herr Klick and Herr Elbers.

Having consulted the most reliable source I can confirm the aeroplane shown is that of Ltn E Wagner of 5/JG 54 downed West of Galloways, Lydd, on 25 October 1940. It is Black 2.

Very interesting image! As well as the two examples already ruled out in previous posts, its also doesn’t look like Bf109E-3, WNr.1289 coded “Brown 2” of 2./JG26 and flown by Uffz.Heinz Wolf which was force landed at Udimore, Sussex on 28th November 1940…

Cheers

W.Nr 3470 was Red 2 of 8/JG 54 which ended up in a ditch at Finns Farm, Kingsnorth, Ashford, on 2 September 1940.

It never fails to amaze (and make me grateful too) that many like yourself are willing to share your knowledge and expertise so unselfishly to benefit we forum members in an instance such as this. Look forward to seeing your earlier photo of Red 2, Tangmere1940.

At least this one missed the Rose and Crown!:)

W.Nr 3470 was Red 2 of 8/JG 54 which ended up in a ditch at Finns Farm, Kingsnorth, Ashford, on 2 September 1940 and was exhibited in several locations around the UK. I have a photo of it at its crash site which I will scan and post later. Its pilot was Uffz H Elbers, POW.

The first part of your question related to W.Nr 2058. This was the machine of Uffz Klick, downed at Shellness Point, Isle of Sheppey, 15 September 1940. Unit was 3/LG 2.
