Swastika’s are allowed on museum aircraft but you’ll never see one on an actively flown aircraft. To be honest I don’t miss them that much on aircraft like this 262 and the stunning 109 red7. Would be great to see them all flown together, the 262, 109, Flugwerk 190….. ๐

Dan: The difference between WWII and the Battle of Hastings is that there are still some people alive today who are suffering as a result of what happened. It’s just respect for the living.
I’ve been affected by the war, but I am still really excited about seeing German aircraft restored and flying.

Correct markings or not, she is an absolute stunner ๐

To cross or not to cross.
I see your point mate ๐ ,
Anywhere else but there in Germany, We sometime’s fudge over the ugly side of the swastika  ,
I can see how a lot of people in the world, would not look at the old German war machine Aircraft, in the same dreamy way we all do ๐ฎ .
Where is the sight of a real flying 262, thrill’s me like no other warbird in my life so far ๐ ๐ .
It may chill, other’s to the bone ๐ .
60 year’s is a long time, but maybe it’s still like yesterday, for a lot of the old people.
I can respect that ๐ .
But I think I am developing a serious infatuation with ” Tango Tango ” ,
Last night I was flying her in to the Essendon Aerodrome in a dream(looking up  for Stang’s, Bolt’s and forked tail devil’s, trying to bounce me :p .

The “substitute” crosses they put in model kits look ridiculous. Yes, the hakenkreuz is a symbol of evil, but its also a part of history. Its like covering up the bit in the Bayeux Tapestry where Harold cops the arrow! Or changing the arrow to one of those kids ones with a suction pad on the front.

Time was I would have agreed, but having lived in Germany for some years Iยดve changed my mind.
A 109 or 262 without a Hakenkreuz can be appreciated for what it is – a fine aircraft. Paint one of those things on the tail and it suddenly becomes an immense embarrasment to every German.
No problem with it in the US or UK, but not here thanks very much.
Just my 2cents. Fire away.
Part of it may also have to do with the owners’/builders’ policy on such things. I’m happy with it either way, although if you paint something else on the tail (like the “boxed in” swastika or another cross (which I’ve seen on a model)) you’re better off with nothing at all. People know what it is and what it was used for!

Agree 100%. This literal “airbrushing of history” is just PC nonsense.

I wonder when the first 262 rolls out with correct markings….I was looking at the Planes of Fame’s new Storch last weekend and even that has the full markings…We must end this PC nonsense and revisionist cleaning up of WWII history. Not a Nazi here, but you get the point.

Does anyone know whether either or both of these will be flying at Oskosh or Wings Over Michigan this year?

Swastika is not illegal on museum exhibits in Germany, the majority of WW2 German types are now displayed with it in the appropriate place.
Dave
But it is illegal just about eveywhere else and since this isnยดt an original A/C, theyยดd have no chance!
Might not win them many fans in Germany either – its still a very sore point here.

I think that it might still be illegal to display a Nazi type swastika in Germany even in a museum – which may explain why it’s missing from an aircraft that’s intended for Germany. Anyone out there up to speed on this?

Very nice, i much prefer the single seaters! Although obviously they can make a lot of money giving trips in the twin seater

No update’s yet at 262 HQ(as usual)
Is this ” Tango Tango “(did engine run’s a while back) , and is it going to be a flyer.
As I am pretty sure that all five will be finished, but not all of them will fly.
Pitty it’s only 5, I can not see more being built just yet, but who know’s, anything is possible ๐
MORE PICTURE’S PLEASE ๐

Very, very impressive.
I wonder how long it has been since a pair of 262’s last sat side by side…?
Is this the airframe which can be converted from single to dual configuration in a couple of hours and vice versa?
I think so, Steve. IIRC there was a sequence of shots in one of the mags not so long ago showing the aircraft going from two seats to one with the removing of the aft fuselage decking.
Sweet ride! ๐
