Hi, just wondering if anyone has any records giving the werke number of Herbert Bischoff’s bf109 (white 9) fron JG52 that crashed near Minster Road, Westgate-on-sea on 24/8/40. Any advise appreciated.

If my calculations are correct then no 3584 would make it no 721 off the production line.
so would fit in the time frame.
Production of the Bf 109E-1 was delayed by problems with the DB601 engine. The pre-production E-0s were ready by December 1938, by which point complete 109E-1 airframes were being made. However the engine did not appear until the spring of 1939. This partly explains the sudden rapid appearance of the 109E in Luftwaffe service over the summer of 1939 β all that was left to do was fit the engine to the aircraft. 850 Bf 109E-1s were delivered in the first eight months of 1939, in time for the outbreak of war.

Thankyou all for your imput. Thats a fantastic page about the 109 block numbers Richard. DC Page, thats interesting the number appears on the illustration and wonder also where they got it from. It does however place Bischoffs 109 as an E-1 variant.

Luftwaffe Crash Archive lists it as an E-1.

This profile shows a number of 3584, but I have no idea where they got that number or whether itβs accurate or not. It does fall in the range for Arado E-1s. You might possibly inquire with the artist if there are no other leads.

Thank you Richard, I assume you have got these numbers from manufacturing blocks from which bischoffs messerschmitt may have been from. I understand it may have been an E1 variant.
