Sqn Ldr George ‘Johnny’ Johnson DFM, 617 Sqn bomb aimer on Macarthy’s crew that attacked the Sorpe dam addressed the Gloster LAA Strut this evening. He spoke with passion, humility and good humour and thoroughly enthralled his audience. His subsequent standing ovation was thoroughly deserved. I managed to get this picture of him in front of a much later Avro machine before he left. A true hero and a humbling experience to meet him.

Not *that* much later in the general scheme of things, only 11 years seperate the Lanc from the Vulcan: Jan 8th ’41 to Aug 30th ’52 😉
