I have just been sent this photo of a Meteor at an “open day”. The owner thinks it might be Kirkham or Weeton.
It looks to me as if it is an F4 because there is no ejection seat (neither visible nor likely to be occupied by visiting civilians!), and the elevator seem to be rounded as per F4, unlike the straight one of the F8. These two stations housed 8 and 10 School of Tech Training. So would anyone have an idea as to where this might have been taken, and when, and also were there ground instruction Meteor F4s at either?
Would this have been a Battle of Britain day, or just a private visit by parents of apprentices?
I presume the dark lines around the gun port and bay may have been part of the training set-up … ?

When I went to the open day in the sixties I recall only the 2 aircraft. They were teaching drivers and general engineering.

Thanks scotavia. That could be the one. I presume they may have had several old Meteors, one of which they stuck up on those blocks a bit later. They had doped it overall silver by then too.
