Today I had the pleasure of attending the official handover of the Meteor Flight’s T.7 to Classic Flight at Coventry Airport.
In brilliant sunshine pilot Dan Griffiths took ‘591 aloft for three fly-by’s then in to land and taxi-in to the small crowd waiting by the CF hangar apron.
Next a speech by Mike Collett and the presentation by him of a superb picture of the aircraft to Hal Taylor, chairman of the Meteor Flight.
Mr Collett then invited all Meteor Flight members to a wonderful buffet lunch in the DC-6 Diner.
Afterwards it was back to the hangars for me and a good look round and a meet-up with Martin Slater of Air Atlantique to bend his ear in the search for spare parts for several projects. Also a visit to the Shackleton Preservation Trust in WR963 and try the pilot’s seat for size.
Pics 1 to 6 are self explanatory. Pic 7 – DC-6 cockpit
All-in-all a great day out and thanks to all concerned.

WA591 did an exciting series of fly pasts and a touch and go for a gathering of ex 1950s RAF pilots at Coventry yesterday.

I missed this event as I couldn’t get cover at work. I would have loved to see the Meteor fly, if it looks half as stunning in the air as it does in the hangar, I’d be very impressed.
As for the Classic Aircraft Trust – they are taking over most of what was Classic Flight. From what I remember of the press release it included the T7 and the Canberras, their website will tell you in more detail.
On the edge of it all are us other groups with single aircraft type interests. We all pull together (sometimes in slightly different ways, but with a common goal) to make it one great big experience for visitors. There’s no merry go round.
