MBDA has made the first guided flight of the ramjet-powered Meteor air-to-air missile. The firing was carried out at the Vidsel Missile Test Range in Sweden on 6 March. Launched from a Gripen flying at 0.9 Mach and at an altitude of 18,000ft (5500m), the missile acquired a MQM-107B ‘Streaker’ high- subsonic subscale aerial target and tracked it through to intercept. During the flight the missile’s data link successfully demonstrated communication between the missile and the firing aircraft.

When is the expected IOC ?
The latest predicted in-service date is August 2013, a year behind the schedule agreed at Main Gate in May 2000.
This seems to be due to Typhoon integration delays and uncertainty over the Typhoon Future Capability Programme.
